Meet Leila: Fairfield's Cutest Pet

Fairfield is no stranger to the name of a pretty little beagle named Leila.

As a dog-loving town, Fairfielders are known to run behind escaped pups, chase them in cars and call to them at all hours of the night and dawn till the dogs return home. Leila, is one puppy, that caused such commotion. It is of no surprise then that she was voted as Fairfield's cutest pet. Just a few months ago the grassy pastures of Fairfield were covered with feet of snow and Miss Leila was having the time of her life leaping over the snowy mountains with a trail of well-meaning Fairfielders slipping and sliding on the ice trying to catch her. Leila made it home safe and warm. Since then she has kept her family happy as busy. Here are some secrets of Leila:

Favorite Hobbies: Leila is an energetic puppy and loves food, loves treats and especially loves to bite things when her owners are not looking. She studies her subject before carefully digging her canine teeth into it and transforming it into a new sculpture. Her creations are beautiful, but her owners don't think so. They throw each bitten object in the garbage. But this doesn't discourage Leila! She goes back to work determined to bite one more thing in such a way that her owners will be proud and display it on the coffee table!

Favorite Toy: Leila likes to bite, jump and drag around a stuffed cat. It makes a noise, almost like the real thing.

Biggest adventure: Leila is very fond of the outdoors. Her ancestors were beagles and loved following a scent to go hunting or finding a lost shoe. Leila is right there with them and loves a good hike. This summer she has enjoyed many hikes along New Jersey's finest trails with her owner. There are so many great smells for her little nose to breathe!

Favorite person: Leila has one love.  His name is Mr. Patel and to Leila, he is the most interesting man in the world. His shirts never wrinkle. If it rains it is because he is thinking of something sad. If he were to mail a letter without postage, it would still get there. His business card simply says, "I'll call you." She has owners but he is the only one person who holds the key to her heart. He spoils her with treats, talks to her, and then when no one is looking he gives her more treats. He is the most wonderful man in the world for Leila.

What she loves about being a dog: Leila loves running around. It could be in circles, in figure 8, in squares, in triangles, or just strait back and forth. Leila loves a good run.

Favorite book: Any book with dog pictures stops Leila from running and intrigues her. She likes looking intently at the pictures of other dogs and wondering what their names and stories are.

In conclusion, Leila is a lovable, sweet dog with a great family. She brought Fairfielder's out of their house in the middle of winter and has brought a smile to her family's face every day. Congratulation, Leila!

Miss Lauren's Last Week!

It's my last week at the library, and I intend to squeeze as much fun as possible into it!

Tomorrow we'll be welcoming students entering grades 6+ in for another edition of Workshop Wednesday. Do you remember the Caine's Arcade video that went viral a few years back? Well, it's spawned a movement of fostering learning through play, which fits perfectly with this year's teen summer reading theme: Spark a Reaction! Take a look at the video below, get so so excited, and then pop in tomorrow at noon to make the wildest cardboard creations imaginable.

I know it must be difficult to be too young to come to such an amazing program, but fear not, we have programs for all ages!
Thursday brings another storytime: come share some stories, make a craft, and watch Miss Lauren get emotional as she bids farewell to her storytime pals. This week's theme is weather!

Friday is our first session of "NyeDay Friday" for students entering grades 4-6.

If you haven't signed up yet, it's too late! The first two sessions have filled up! Don't worry, there's still time to sign up for the July 25th and August 1st sessions. We recommend that you hurry, though, they're filling up fast.
